Where to take your four-legged friend when you go on vacation? More and more pet owners who don't want to send their beloved pet to an animal shelter during their vacation are asking themselves this question. If the choice falls on a mountain hut, the question does not arise - dogs are welcome here. Vacations with plenty of exercise, shady spots and long walks - your four-legged friend will love it too. An ideal combination: enjoy the advantages of a family vacation with your four-legged friend in an alpine hut and spend a vacation with your dog.

A lot going on on the alpine pastures

However, there are a few guidelines to follow on the mountain pastures. Because in summer, the grazing animals - cattle, cows with their calves, sheep and billy goats - are also on "vacation" and enjoy the alpine pastures, the fresh alpine grass and wonderful freedom. Mutual respect allows everyone to get along peacefully. Many people are not familiar with the behavior of grazing animals and often do not know how to behave towards them.

Here are a few tips for hikers

1) Take signs and advice from animal caretakers seriously

2) Stay on the marked paths on alpine pastures

3) Keep dogs on a leash

4) Avoid hiking trails that cross pastures

5) Mother cows fear for their cows when they smell dogs. They may attack the dogs if they see their young animals threatened. In an emergency: let go of the dog lead!

6) Don't scare the animals - cattle don't like loud, high-pitched sounds.

7) Animals with horns can cause serious injuries.

8) If a single animal approaches you - stay calm! Do NOT turn your back on the animal and walk slowly backwards out of its territory.

9) Look around for suitable ways out as soon as you meet a herd.

10) A sturdy walking stick is also a great help when walking on the mountain pasture, but never wave a walking stick around and irritate the animal. In an absolute emergency, a targeted blow to the animal's nose can command respect.

11) A bull is particularly dangerous! Therefore, never walk through the middle of a herd, but go around it at a safe distance, as inconspicuously as possible.

12) Observe threatening gestures of the animals, such as: lowering the head, stomping back and forth, roaring. ü Do not stroke or feed young animals, because approaching these animals triggers instinctive protective mechanisms in the mother animals. ü Do not open any pasture fences, but use crossings, turnstiles, triangular gates and always close all pasture gates after passing through.

Mindfulness and appreciation contribute to an eventful and enjoyable hut vacation.
